Everything You Need to Know
For many of us, backbends are viewed as advanced poses, something inaccessible, as only for flexible people, and therefore many yoga practitioners shy away from them. I often hear from different students that "they got injured from deep backbends", "My back always hurts when I try this pose", or ‘’I used to practice backbends when I was younger/before pregnancy, but now it scares me’’ etc…
Most of the time we have a misleading idea about what creates the backbend, what preparations/warm up we should have, and what will be the most effective way to unwind the body at the end of its practice.
During our workshop, we will break the myths that exist in the eyes of many who believe that if it is not possible to create a perfect Urdhva Dhanurasana (bridge pose) like on the cover of the magazine, then it is not worth the effort.
I have good news for you: the older we get, the more we should practice backbends.
This does not mean that the poses should be extreme in their depth or effort, but rather an intellectual practice that suits your body at this moment in your life. Â To make it more fun, we will learn anatomy and kinesiology in the context of backward bending, body literacy, and experimenting on our own bodies.Â
The knowledge and personal experience will allow you to look at backbends with fresh eyes, with a more trusting heart & open mind and you will be able to fall in love again or for the first time with these poses that scared you until now.
All levels are welcome.
This workshop will be taught in Hebrew with translation to English language if needed.
